Hiding and Restoring Addition and Subtraction Activities
For a variety of reasons, teachers and administrators may choose to limit the number of activities students are required to engage in while they are in the addition and subtraction learning mode of MathFactLab. Educators may decide that some of the activities are more effective for their students than others. They might also feel that they need to limit the number of activities so their students can progress more quickly through the levels. Within a class, there may be a need for differentiating MathFactLab activities so that students receive the practice best suited to their needs.
To help our kindergarteners and first graders, by default, ten frames are the only model shown to them. You, of course, can unhide the other addition/subtraction models to provide them with a wider range of options.
For students in second grade and up, by default, all five activities are activated: beads, ten frames, double-bar diagrams, missing addend and find the difference. As many as four activities can be hidden but either ten frames or beads must remain active. Activities can be hidden from individual students or multiple students. When activities are hidden they remain hidden for all addition/subtraction levels unless that option is modified.
Teachers are not currently able to hide activities in the multiplication/division learning mode.
Teachers or administrators must click on Save for changes to the activities to take effect. Students may need to refresh their screens if changes are made while they are working.
The screenshots below show a teacher's dashboard but the steps are identical for administrators. The video shows an administrator's dashboard.

Student examples
This screenshot illustrates what students are required to complete at this level when their teacher has left all activities available.
Working at the same level, this screenshot shows the student's screen when the teacher has hidden two types of activities.
If a teacher hides all activities except one the student, working at the same level, would only see these activities.
