Administrators Using Tags to Organize and Locate Students and Classes
Students and classes can be tagged or labeled and those tags can be used to assist administrators, teachers or interventionists in a number of ways.
- Tagging will be helpful if students are grouped for support or progress monitoring. Student tags will help interventionists locate students in their MathFactLab dashboard even though they are being pulled from multiple classes. Groups created with tags for this purpose will be easy to modify as students shift between groups over the course of the school year.
- Educators can use tagging to create subgroups of students to make it easier to modify student settings or monitor the progress of those subgroups.
- Tagging classes will be helpful if administrators or support personnel want to identify and locate classes with similar characteristics. For example, teachers may using different instructional strategies and tagging those classes would make it easier to see the impact of those strategies on math fluency.
- Class tagging might be especially helpful for school district with multiple schools and many classes and students utilizing MathFactLab.
- Tags must use letters and/or numbers but no punctuation or special characters.
- Tags can include multiple words.
- Tags are case sensitive and must be spelled exactly the same way each time they are used.
- After tags have initially been added they should appear in a drop-down list of choices when adding tags to other students or classes.
- Tags can be added to an individual student or a group of students simultaneously.
- Students and classes may have multiple tags.
- Tags can only be removed one at a time.
- Class tags must be added one at a time.

Here are the steps for adding a tag to an individual student.
- Begin on the Students tab. You can use either the Informative or Performance view.

Click on the Edit Student icon for the student you wish to tag.
- Add the tag you wish to use to the 'Add Tag' box.
- Click on the green + button to add this tag to the student's account. You may add more than one tag but they must be added one at a time.
- Click on the Save button after adding tags.
Adding tags to multiple students:
- Begin on the Students tab. You can use either the Informative or Performance view.
- Click in the checkboxes of the students you want to tag. Check on the box at the top of the Name column to choose all the students.
- Click on the Group Edit button.
- In the 'Add Tag' box enter the tag you want to add to these students.
- After each tag has been entered click on the green + button. Enter as many tags as you wish but they must be entered one at a time.
- Click on the Save button when finished.
Removing Tags from Students
Tags can only be removed from students or classes one at a time, not as a group.
To remove a tag go back to the Edit Student window and click on the 'x' next to the tag you wish to remove. Make sure you save after making this change.

Tags may only be added to one class at a time.
To remove a tag go back to the Edit Class window and click on the 'x' next to the tag name. Make sure you save after making this change.
- Begin on the Classes tab.
- Click on the Edit Class icon for the class you want to add a tag to.
- Add a tag to the class in the 'Tags' box.
- Click on the green + sign and repeat the process for additional tags.
- Remember to click on the Save button.
Searching for students using tags
Tags can be used to locate all the students who have been given a specific tag. The default setting in the search section of the Students window is 'All Tags' which will show all students in that class or school.
- Start by choosing the Students tab. You can be on either the Informative or the Performance screen.
- Click on the 'Filter' button.
- In the Tags box enter the tag you are looking for or choose one from the drop-down list of previously added tags.
- Click on the 'Apply Filter' button.
The number visible on the filters button indicated the number of filters chosen and hovering on that number will display the applied filters. All the students with the chosen tag will be shown, even if they are from different classes or schools.
Using tags to search for classes:
When searching the default setting to is to show 'All Tags' and therefore all classes.
To find classes using tags:
- Start by choosing the Classes tab.
- Click on the Filter button.
- Enter or choose the class tag you are looking for from the Tags window.
- Click on the 'Apply Filter' button.
