Can a teacher change the Level Lifter settings?
Providing flexibility in Level Lifter passing requirements helps struggling students stay motivated. A teacher can change the Level Lifter settings by modifying the fluency rate and/or the number of Whoopsies (mistakes) a student is allowed to make on an assessment. These changes can be made for individual students or a group of students.

Changing the Fluency Rate
A student's 'Required fluency rate' is the number of seconds a student is allowed per response to be considered fluent. Fluency rates can be set from 2 to 120 seconds per problem.
Editing an Individual Student's Fluency Rate
- Go to the Students tab.
Select the edit icon on the line of the student whose fluency rate you wish to edit.
- You will be brought to the Edit Student screen. Towards the bottom, you will see the Required Fluency Rate dropdown. Click this and select the number of seconds that will be the student's new fluency rate.
- Click on the Save button.
Editing the Fluency Rates of Multiple Students
- Go to the Students tab.
- Click the checkboxes of the students whose fluency rates you would like to change. Click the top checkbox if you wish to change it for all students.
Click 'Group Edit' in the top right.
The Group Edit popup will appear. The second option is the Required Fluency Rate dropdown. Click this and select the number of seconds that will be the new fluency rate for the selected students.
Changing the number of allowed errors (Whoopsies)
A 'whoopsie' is an error on a Level Lifter. The requirements for passing Level Lifters are determined by a student's Level Lifter Whoopsies setting. A late response counts as one whoopsie, while an incorrect response counts as two. For most students, we recommend 6 to 10 whoopsies, and we set our default at 8 whoopsies. The 'Staggered' option increases the number of allowed whoopsies by two with each Level Lifter attempt - starting at eight, progressing up to a total of 16 on the fifth or more Level Lifter attempt.

- Make sure to hit the Save button.

Additional Level Lifter Options
If adjusting the Level Lifter settings doesn't help certain students, the teacher has other options. The teacher can give the assessment orally if the student has difficulty using a keyboard and mouse. They can also unlock a Level Lifter if the teacher believes the student is ready to take an assessment again. Finally, the teacher can choose the most appropriate level for the student and move the student to that level. For more details on these options, check out the links below.
